My Fiction

One Plus One Equals Trouble (Love that Counts series, book 1)

The one room schoolhouse isn’t big enough to hold thirty-four students, let alone the ego of two teachers. He can’t afford to lose the position, and she refuses to lose her heart.

Sondra Kraak’s delightful debut novel One Plus One Equals Trouble is the kind of math I can do. One flirty smoldering hero.  One uptight but sincere heroine. A whole lot of fantastic electricity between the two. A bit of humor. And nudges of faith that will wrap you up in a quilt of truth. The result? A new favorite book, series, and author for me! If you enjoy reading Melissa Jagears, Regina Jennings, and/or Karen Witemeyer, you will really enjoy this book as well.

Two Ways Home (Love that Counts series, book 2)

She’s about to lose her home. He never wanted to see his again. And a stalker is staking a claim.

Sondra Kraak hits exactly the right tone with the banter, but there’s plenty of heart in this story, too, particularly as Mary and Luke begin opening up to one another and sharing more than their customary banter.

Three Words and a Kiss (Love that Counts, book 3)

When a big-hearted debutante collides with a small-town blacksmith set in his ways, it can mean only one thing—a war of hearts has come to Pine Creek.

In addition to the fabulous writing, this book moved me with its prominent themes of prejudice, compassion, and faith. Within this novel, the ugliness of racism, ignorance, and fear contrasts sharply with the restorative power of compassion and grace. Even in the face of opposition, those with kind hearts remain generous and faithful depriving prejudice of its power.

Four Dreams of You (Love that Counts, book 4)

book cover Four Dreams of You
When past threats bring new trouble to Pine Creek, Torin and Grace must become vulnerable—to each other and their community—and through risk, discover that reality is more fulfilling than their dreams.

This was an utterly magnificent read! I have no idea how I’m going to make it through this review without just gushing all over the place, but oh! This story! My romance-loving heart is full to bursting. In fact, at one point, I really did think it would burst because there was sooooo much delicious romantic tension building up. I mean, the first time Torin and Grace lay eyes on each other is breathtaking—quite literally in some ways. I think it officially rates as one of my most favourite meetings of all times. But from then on, this is a slow-burn romance. Emphasis on slow and burn—although I hasten to assure you that slow does not mean boring!

Five Simple Gifts (Love that Counts, book 5)

book cover for Five Simple Gifts
As secrets are revealed, driving a wedge between Wilder and Langley, they both must humble themselves to receive a gift they did not earn, a gift not bought with money or charm: the gift of a second chance.

This is one of the sweetest, funniest, most life-enriching novels I have ever read. Forgiveness and grace run rampant in this wonderful book.

First To Fall (A Love that Counts novella)

Cat on windowsill, snow outside, title: First to Fall by Sondra Kraak

Such a Hope (stand alone)

This story had me from page one all the way to the end. The best thing about it? I really felt that above being a fictional story, it was kind of a lesson in relying on the Lord and the wonderful power of prayer. Sondra is not afraid to show the gospel in her stories and that is one of the reasons I like them so much!

Why I Write Inspirational Romance

Falling in love has been one of my most blessed experiences. That falling stage only lasts a season and has a special, anticipatory aura. Even though I love my husband more and more each day, the initial getting-to-know you and romancing will always be set apart in our minds as unique and glorious. In part, I write love stories to celebrate and remember my own love story.

But there’s a much deeper reason I write stories of romance. Romance, to me, is deep and personal, and impossible to unfetter from the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The pursuit of Father God after his fallen people, the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, the ever-present guidance and power of the Holy Spirit–these are components of the greatest love story of all. And every love story I write has to reflect this grand pursuit.
